Gown made for Australia's bicentennial celebrations in 1988. It is made in silk paper taffeta.

 

The floral sprays are hand embroidered, there are 27 motifs evenly spaced across the front and around the hem. The brilliant magenta colour was available in the 18th century even though they used vegetable dyes.

 

This shows the skirt looped up with internal tapes for day wear. For evening wear the skirt would be released to fall and form a train

 

Hat and day cap to be worn by a married woman in the 1780s.
